There’s one spot in the mirror that always seems to catch your eye first — the under-eye area. Even after a full night’s sleep, it can look shadowed and hollow, making you appear more tired and older than you actually are. This concern is behind one of the most frequently asked-about treatments in our consultation room lately: “Juvelook Eye.” Today, let’s take a closer look at how Juvelook Eye works and what the research actually shows.


What Makes Juvelook Eye Different

Juvelook is a hybrid biostimulator that combines hyaluronic acid (HA) with PDLLA (Poly-D,L-lactic Acid). Juvelook Eye refers specifically to using this formulation in the thin, delicate skin around the eyes — particularly the tear trough area, where under-eye hollowing and dark circles tend to stand out most.

With HA-only fillers, volume is restored immediately, but in a thin area like the under-eye, there have been reports of the Tyndall effect (a bluish discoloration under the skin), swelling, or lumpiness. Juvelook Eye was designed to help address these concerns by having its two components act at different points in time.


The Dual-Action Mechanism – Immediate Volume, Delayed Collagen Stimulation

Juvelook Eye works in roughly two stages.

1) Hyaluronic acid (HA) provides immediate hydration and volume, so the under-eye area can look more refreshed right after treatment.

2) Over time, PDLLA microparticles settle into the dermis and are understood to stimulate collagen production. This process unfolds gradually over several weeks rather than immediately, and is reported to contribute to improvements in the skin’s own elasticity and thickness.

In short, HA addresses “the hollowing you see right now,” while PDLLA gradually builds up “the skin’s own strength” — two roles working together over time.


Why the Eye Area Requires Extra Care

The under-eye and tear trough region has a dense network of blood vessels and some of the thinnest skin on the face. That makes technique especially important. At LIBHIB Clinic, we typically use a blunt-tip cannula to inject in two separate layers — the supraperiosteal plane and the subdermal plane. Blunt cannulas are known to reduce the risk of vascular injury compared to sharp needles, which is why they’re preferred for treatment in this sensitive area.


What Does the Research Actually Show?

International research on Juvelook Eye (HA/PDLLA hybrid treatment for the tear trough area) is gradually accumulating.

A 2025 case report published in the international journal Cureus (Ravera K. et al., 2025) followed a 24-year-old woman with under-eye hollowing and pigmentation who received cannula-injected Juvelook, tracking tissue changes with ultrasound, CT, and MRI. High-resolution ultrasound taken 18 days after treatment showed a slight increase in echogenicity in the skin and soft tissue layers compared to baseline, which the researchers interpreted as reflecting integration of PDLLA particles into the tissue. CT and MRI over the same period showed no abnormalities in tissue density or signal intensity, suggesting the filler had integrated relatively stably with surrounding tissue. The case also reported high satisfaction from both the patient and the treating physician.

A separate 2025 study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (Wan et al., 2025) also examined the efficacy and safety of PDLLA for lower eyelid rejuvenation.

That said, these studies are largely single case reports or have relatively short follow-up periods, and are described by the authors themselves as early-stage evidence without control-group comparisons. The researchers note that larger, controlled studies are still needed to confirm long-term collagen-stimulating effects and to compare outcomes against other treatments. In other words, this doesn’t mean identical results are guaranteed for everyone — outcomes and the degree of visible improvement can vary based on individual skin condition, the extent of hollowing, and the treatment area.
